Theatre & Dance – An Education For Today’s Artist
The department of Arts, Theatre & Dance stresses active learning in each curriculum. By joining Theatre & Dance majors, you will not only sit and read theories and methods you will put these into practice. Students are taught how to develop an aesthetic appreciation of the theatrical world through the application of dance. This curriculum uses many different types of dance, music, spoken word and visual art to create a strong educational foundation. Students learn about many different styles such as classical, contemporary, television and video art. The theatre programs are designed around different aspects of drama including acting, music, literature and more.
Students have the ability to choose either a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre & Dance or a Bachelor of Science in Theatre & Dance. Students who enjoy performing on stage or are looking for a career within the performing arts often select either of these programs. Students who plan on becoming actors, directors, producers or designers also find work in this industry.
Students are encouraged to become independent artists by completing their theatre & dance degrees. After completing an undergraduate degree, graduates can pursue work in many different fields. Individuals may choose to be theatre makers, musicians, designers, educators, film makers, or press professionals. Theatre & Dance majors can choose to attend a technical college or earn a four year degree through an accredited university. Some schools offer scholarships and financial aid to help students pay for their degrees.
